Tented Camp

Tented CampIn partnership with Khiri Travel, the Banteay Chhmar CBT is very pleased to introduce you to an extremely special travel experience. The Tented Camp offers guests luxurious, comfortable and fully furnished accommodations within the main temple complex of Banteay Chhmar. The tents are erected in close proximity to the western gallery of the temple. Guests will be able to experience a sense of peace, calm and stepping back into another time and place as they take the time to relax and explore the 12th century temple ruins hidden amongst the trees and overgrowth. The natural condition of the temple and its remote setting is unlike many of the other temples from the Angkorian era. The tents are environmentally low-impact and are easily taken down leaving only a small patch of depressed grass.

The Tented Camp is an all-inclusive tour package. Guests will sleep in the tents, have meals prepared and delivered to the tent site or nearby within the temple complex, receive a temple tour from an English-speaking CBT guide, listen to traditional music while dining and be able to take part in other activities such as taking an ox-cart tour, visiting the Soieries du Mekong Silk Center, the other satellite temples and the village market. Activities can be arranged and adapted as desired.

Award Winner

The Tented Camp was awarded the prestigious 2014 Grand Award for Heritage and Culture by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).

As part of the partnership with Khiri Travel, the Banteay Chhmar CBT and community will manage all the activities and services related to the tents.

“The villagers benefit by income and skills training from the project,” says Willem Niemeijer, CEO of Khiri Travel. “They don’t have any financial risk. They’ve received training and orientation. It’s one of the first viable tourism activities in their remote rural area.”

Finally, this project is being supervised by the Cambodian Ministry of Fine Arts & Culture (MCFA) which is responsible for the protection and preservation of the temple complex of Banteay Chhmar.
